Caldor Heroes Tribute Update

We’ve made good progress on all fronts of the Caldor Tribute. We’re only about $2000 short of the goal that I’ve set to be able to pay the Bronze Foundry for the casting process. With the help of Don DeMenno, a good friend and bronze guru who lives in Camino and worked for Bennett's for many years, we’ve put together two more molds, poured the wax, and are working on wax finishing. This multi-step process takes a great deal of time and expense. And when it gets to the foundry, another similar process takes place. Long, labor-intensive (but work I love), and expensive.

We’re just thrilled that the tribute will be on public display in front of the fabulous 50 Grand Restaurant in Pollock Pines on Main Street, right near the County Fire Department. I’ll be looking for some volunteer help to get it there. If you have experience building a small brick base or with creating a garden setting and are willing to help out with this community Tribute please contact me at darby@darbypatterson.com. I am also making a smaller bronze piece to top off a plaque for donors.

I welcome questions and ideas, and you can contact me anytime. Thanks for all your support.

The photo is a plaque in clay on board. It’s waiting for the next step when we make a mold around it. Donate at ioby – Caldor!

A big thank you to everyone involved in the Hands Across Pollock

Clean-up Day on May 20th!

To date, over 661 tons of debris of all kinds have been removed from Pollock Pines thanks to the generosity of El Dorado Disposal Waste Connections’ partnership with us, as well as the many volunteers and business sponsors that make it happen.

El Dorado Disposal (EDD) has in the past praised the Pollock Pines community cleanup day as the best because of how organized and efficient we have always been. We appreciate all that EDD does for us. Without them, we would not have this opportunity for free waste disposal. While there were admittedly some difficulties this year that ended with EDD calling time on the event an hour earlier than scheduled, CEDAPP and the many participating businesses are committed to driving improvements for successful events in coming years.

Volunteers Needed!

One of the immediate needs in this community is for volunteer participation. Each of the many events and other community efforts require commitment by all kinds of volunteers, however volunteers are now in short supply, raising the possibility that much-loved, longstanding events are in danger of being canceled or significantly scaled back. There are many organizations with various focuses: sponsoring community events, supporting our youth with scholarships and library supplies and programs, working to build playgrounds, beautifying our landscapes, supporting local economic vitality, providing environmental education programs, and many other worthwhile goals. If you are able to volunteer your time and talents, please reach out to become involved at whatever level that you are comfortable with at one (or more) of our local organizations.

Here are some examples - check out their websites to see if they might be a fit for you. If not, there are many other possibilities in El Dorado County. Thank you for your support!

Thanks to all who already participate as a volunteer! You are much appreciated.
