CEDAPP NewsBlast #476 June 2026

Local News from the Community Economic Development Association of Pollock Pines

El Dorado County officials say funding could complete long-awaited park improvements, including new playgrounds, picnic areas, and expanded recreation amenities.

El Dorado County’s long-planned effort to modernize and expand recreational amenities at Forebay Park in Pollock Pines moved a major step forward Monday after county officials announced the project has been recommended for a $1.4 million grant through the California State Parks and Recreation Department.

The funding recommendation would support the Forebay Park Improvement Project, a multi-phase effort aimed at revitalizing the 14-acre community park located in the heart of Pollock Pines. According to the county, the competitive grant program is funded through the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund and includes only 18 recommended projects statewide.

County officials said the recommended funding would be combined with a previously approved $1 million county investment and additional California Proposition 68 grant funds to complete both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the park improvement project. Planned upgrades include improvements to picnic areas, enhancements to the park’s disc golf course, and construction of a new state-of-the-art playground designed to serve children and families throughout the Pollock Pines area.

The recommendation now advances to final review by the National Park Service before funding is formally awarded. County officials did not provide a timeline for final approval but indicated the project is positioned to move forward if federal review is completed successfully.

Caldor Fire Tribute

Monument Update

At long last the Caldor Monument is coming to fruition. Many sites were considered since our last update, and late last year Pollock Pines Fire Station #17 was chosen as the home for this monument honoring first responders, firefighters, and volunteers who joined together to contain and defeat the 221,000-acre natural disaster. Local artist Darby Patterson created four bronze plaques for the monument. Doug Veerkamp General Engineering generously donated the work for the foundation and volunteer Greg Duncan is building the wall that will hold the plaques. Stay tuned for the forthcoming announcement of a dedication date where the community will be invited to attend the formal unveiling.

Time for the El Dorado County Fair!

Defensible Space Inspection Notice

You may have recently received one of these notices in the mail. Each year, El Dorado County, CAL FIRE, and local fire districts work together to conduct proactive defensible space inspections throughout the County. These inspections are intended to educate homeowners on defensible space requirements to help improve wildfire preparedness and home resilience. These inspections are NOT tied to your insurance company and inspection information will not be shared with insurers. These inspections are focused on education. Healthy, living trees can remain and should be limbed up and properly spaced. Removal is only required for dead or dying trees that pose a fire hazard. At this time, the new Zone 0 law is not being enforced. Inspectors may provide education and recommendations for creating a safer first 5 feet around your home. Inspectors will work with homeowners on a reasonable timeline for any needed work. Inspectors will not enter your property without permission. If you are not home, they will leave a notification at your door or gate with contact information so you can call and schedule the inspection for a later date. More details here.
