Sierra Wildlife Rescue Baby Bird Nursery opens Monday, May 4th. If you find an injured or orphaned bird call (530)-621-4661. If you are bringing a bird to center, keep it in a warm, dark, quiet environment like a shoe box.
To protect the public and our volunteers, we are asking rescuers to remain in their cars when they come to the center to deliver a bird. BBN staff will come out to your car to receive the bird.

El Dorado County approves $550K grant to help
Grizzly Flats residents rebuild after Caldor Fire
The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 on April 7 to launch a rebuild program for Grizzly Flats homeowners still recovering from the 2021 Caldor Fire, authorizing $550,150 from the county's affordable housing special revenue fund to get the effort off the ground.
The program pairs qualifying homeowners with nonprofit builder Homemade Sacramento and local volunteers to construct predesigned 750 square-foot homes with the county filling financing gaps through forgivable loans. Homemade Sacramento has committed to contributing at least 50 percent of labor and materials through volunteers with organizers expecting to surpass that threshold and begin construction on the first two homes as early as May 4. El Dorado Irrigation District News
S&P Global Ratings Confirms EID's Strong Credit Rating The El Dorado Irrigation District announced that S&P Global Ratings (S&P) has assigned a strong ‘AA-’ long-term credit rating to the District’s anticipated $43.8 million Series 2026A Revenue Refunding Bonds. This high investment-grade rating is an independent confirmation of the District’s sound financial health, responsible management, and long-term planning. The Series 2026A bonds will refinance existing debt, helping reduce borrowing costs and further strengthen the District’s overall stability. Together, these actions reinforce the District’s solid financial foundation and long-term outlook. For customers, maintaining a strong credit rating helps keep financing costs low, which supports stable and affordable rates over time. Read the full press release here.

Pacific Gas & Electric News
Whether it's a large digging project or something small, call 811 at least 2 business days before you dig in your yard or on your property to avoid hitting buried gas or other utility lines. Read more here.
Generator & Battery Rebates
The Backup Power Support Rebate for generators and batteries is $300 per qualified customer. If you participate in PG&E's CARE or FERA programs, you may receive an additional $200. Learn more here.
Undergrounding/System Upgrades
We are making upgrades to the PG&E electric system. These can help prevent wildfires and keep the power on. Our map shows where this work is happening near you. You can also search for system upgrades by county. To learn more, visit our Undergrounding and System Upgrades webpage.

Burn Permits Required as of May 1
The CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit has announced that residential burn permits will be required effective Friday, May 1. Burn permits must be obtained online at https://burnpermit.fire.ca.gov/. To acquire a permit, visit the website, watch a short educational video, and apply. The process provides the necessary information needed to conduct the burn safely, while minimizing the chance for fire escape. Permits must be in possession either by printed copy or digitally.
Vegetation Management Program
Throughout the winter and spring months, CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit conducts a lot of pile burning across the unit as part of our Vegetation Management Program (VMP). This form of prescribed fire involves gathering excess natural vegetation into piles and burning it under carefully controlled conditions. It’s a key tool in reducing hazardous fuels, lowering long-term wildfire risk, and helping restore healthier, more resilient forests. Every operation follows a strict go/no-go checklist to ensure conditions are right and operations remain safe and controlled. Next time you see piles being burned, know this is proactive work happening now to reduce the risk of larger, more destructive wildfires in the future.
