El Dorado County Seeks Judicial Clarification Regarding

Validity of Proposed Ballot Measure

El Dorado County filed a complaint February 26th with the Superior Court of the County of El Dorado seeking the Court’s ruling on the invalidity of a proposed ballot initiative.

The proposed initiative would limit the Board of Supervisors’ constitutional discretion to determine employee compensation. Read more here.

El Dorado County Warns of Change to Post Office Policy

Treasurer-Tax Collector, Sean Coppola, suggests residents take their property tax bills to be postmarked at a post office counter if they're making the payment close to the delinquency date of April 10th. The reason: the US Postal Service now considers the date of the first automated processing operation performed on the mail piece, not necessarily the date it was dropped off at the post office or placed in a mail receptacle. The second installment of property taxes was due Feb. 1st and will be considered delinquent after April 10th, resulting in a 10% penalty, per state law.

The County Civil Grand Jury is recruiting for a new term beginning in July

This is a government oversight function enshrined in the California Constitution with the ability to investigate all local government functions within the county, including cities and special districts. Several information sessions will be held in April to learn how you can apply and what the opportunity entails.

Pacific Gas & Electric News

Good news for your electric bill

On March 1, PG&E lowered residential electric rates again — the fifth decrease since January 2024, and the third straight cut since last fall for customers who get both electricity supply and delivery from PG&E. What does that mean at home? For most households, electric bills are dropping by about $5 a month. Taken together, these changes add up. Residential electric rates are now about 13% lower than they were in January 2024, which means a typical customer is paying around $25 less per month compared to two years ago (based on typical monthly use of 500 kilowatt-hours.). Looking ahead, current projections show electric rates are expected to be lower overall in 2026 than in 2025. That’s part of ongoing work to bring more stability — and a little more breathing room — to energy costs. Read more here.

Curious about what's happening in your neighborhood?

Take a look at the EDSO Crime and Activity Map

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) was created in 2017 and has always utilized a two prong approach of outreach and enforcement. This method has been very beneficial for both the homeless individual and the community. With every person we contact we assess their needs and work with them to get out of homelessness. However, many homeless people in our community are resistant to assistance and continue to commit crimes to sustain their lifestyle. This is where enforcement is utilized.

EDSO stays committed to total enforcement on crime and criminals, and total care for the community. EDSO has changed the name of HOT to HEAT, the Homeless Enforcement & Assistance Team. Our focus remains unchanged and outreach is still the main component of our mission. We will continue to help those wanting assistance, but we will not tolerate anyone who victimizes our community and our citizens. HEAT can be reached at 530-621-7535 or heat@eldoradosheriff.gov. Homeless encampments can be reported using the QR code or at this link.

The distribution is conducted on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
