Local News from the Community Economic Development Association of Pollock Pines
As we approach Independence Day, remember that most areas in the Amador-El Dorado Unit prohibit all fireworks, including “Safe and Sane” fireworks. Fireworks are strictly prohibited in all areas of Alpine and El Dorado counties except for sanctioned public firework show events. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and CAL FIRE will be strictly enforcing this. Thank you for being fire safe in this hot, dry weather.
The Grand Jury has released its Final Report for the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year. The Grand Jury represents the public as a watchdog organization over County and special district operations and policies. The Final Report can be found here.
FOREBAY COMMUNITY PARK UPDATE
El Dorado County staff conducted a site visit at Forebay Park on May 3rd to provide more specific feedback to NCE (the engineering consultant) regarding the location of park amenities in relation to existing trees on the site. A follow-up site visit was conducted on the 9th to clarify staff’s expectations.
NCE is currently working on the final design based on that site visit and staff feedback. Once the Conceptual Master Plan is complete, staff will coordinate outreach to the public for any feedback before proceeding with engineering and construction documents. The intent is to release this project for competitive bidding this winter.
530/837 Area Codes
The CPUC began the process to introduce a new area code to the 530 area codes, as the supply of available prefixes in the 530 area code region is expected to be depleted by September 2025. Pending approval by the CPUC, the new area code will be introduced on top of the 530 area code region. Read more here.

An Update on The Caldor Fire Tribute – All Good News
The panels are at Frostad Atelier Foundry in Sacramento and nearly finished! Thanks to you, we raised the $20,000 to pay for the casting process. I know, that’s a lot. But the casting and finishing process is justifiably costly, and Frostad is one of the best in the business. I am so very grateful to you all! I also received two generous grants – one from PG&E and the other from Sierra Pacific Industries. The Placerville Arts Association in our nonprofit partner on GoFundMe – Caldor Tribute.
And the work goes on – next, I need to tackle the expense of installing the monument on Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines – a major crossroads for travelers and local hub for the Caldor firefighting effort. Please consider donating to help us with the installation and complete this project. I’m also seeking a few volunteers to help with the installation effort – concrete work and a bit of carpentry. Thank you for your continued support– Darby Patterson
Volunteers Still Needed!
Here are some examples - check out their websites to see if they might be a fit for you. If not, there are many other possibilities in El Dorado County. Thank you for your support!
Pacific Gas & Electric News
Californians can expect cheaper utility bills this summer, PG&E says
PG&E electric rates will decrease by 9% on July 1—a temporary rate change that will help customers save on their bill during the hottest months of the year. Customers who receive their energy supply through a Community Choice Aggregation program will see a decrease of 7% in PG&E’s rates for delivery service. Electric rates will temporarily decrease because in June, the company will finish collecting costs for important work completed in 2020 and 2021. Read more here and here.
