Pollock Pines Christmas Tree Saved

Earlier this month, CEDAPP became aware that El Dorado Savings Bank, located on Pony Express Trail, was planning to repave their parking lot and along with the repaving, would be cutting down the large tree on the NE corner of their property.
This is the tree that El Dorado Savings Bank had graciously allowed CEDAPP to use as our community Christmas tree in the past and the tree that CEPAPP installed new commercial grade Christmas lights on a few years back at a cost of $1,100.
CEDAPP contacted Mr. Jim Cook at El Dorado Savings Bank and explained that the removal of this tree would be the end of Pollock Pines community Christmas tradition.
An immediate response was received, “Management was not aware that the tree being recommended for removal was the tree used for the community's Christmas celebration. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have instructed the trimmer to leave the tree as is.”
Our community is so grateful to the El Dorado Savings Bank management and, in particular, to Mr. Jim Cook for allowing us to keep our Christmas tradition shining bright for the years to come!

Gardening in a Changing Climate - Sept 13, 2025 9:00am to 12:00pm @ Bethel-Delfino Agriculture Building - “In order to know where you are going, it is necessary to know where you have been.” This course endeavors to examine factors that have influenced Earth’s climate throughout history up to now and what is likely to happen in the future if current trends continue. We will cover the essential elements for life on Earth and what natural processes control or influence our climate, then examine recent human influences on today’s global climate trends along with the consequences of our proceedings as usual. We end by exploring what we can do as individuals to help slow and mitigate the warming of our planet and ways we can garden wisely as our local climate trends change. Registration is requested, but not required.
California Native Plants - Sept 20, 2025 9:00am to 12:00pm @ Placerville Veterans Memorial Hall - Do you love native plants and wonder how you can enjoy them on your patio or in your smaller garden? Join Master Gardener and California Native Plant Society (CNPS) member Dolores Morrison to discover how to evaluate your yard to establish a native landscape, how to select and maintain plants, how to group plants by water needs and, if you only have a small space, the best native plants for containers. There are native plants for every environment. Registration is requested, but not required.
Pruning All Plants 101 - Sept 27, 2025 9:00am to 12:00pm @ Sherwood Demonstration Garden. Pruning plants is like getting your haircut. First you need to visualize what you'd like the plant to look like long term. Just like a barber, you need to have the right tools. Then there are some dos and don'ts, proper times of the year, and some basic principles that will turn any gardener into a pro (even better than some professional trimmers).
Come to the Sherwood Demonstration Garden to learn how to prune just about any plant, and then be prepared to walk through the garden to get more of a hands-on experience. Registration is requested, but not required. Parking permits required, purchase a $2 permit at any kiosk.
